In a Form 10-Q filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Abbott Laboratories (ABT) revealed the receipt of a subpoena from the United States Department of Justice, through the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts in June 2008.
The company noted that the government is investigating the sales and marketing activities of its biliary stent products, about violation of civil and/or criminal laws, including the Federal False Claims Act, the Food and Drug Cosmetic Act and the Anti-Kickback Statute in connection with Medicare and/or Medicaid reimbursement paid to third parties.
