The Weir Group Plc (WEIR.L) said Thursday that it now expects fiscal 2008 pre-tax profit from continuing operations before intangibles amortization and exceptional items to increase to about GBP 170 million.

On August 12, the company had projected full-year pre-tax profit excluding intangibles amortization and exceptional items of GBP 165.4 million.

The Group's continued strong performance in the year to date and the foreign currency translation benefits lifted the Board's confidence in the full-year outlook, the company noted.

According to the company, the Group has continued to perform strongly during the third quarter, with good growth in input, revenue and profit, on a constant currency basis, reflecting ongoing demand for its products across the mining, oil & gas and power sectors, and the impact of recent acquisitions.
