Ryder System, Inc. (R) Wednesday reported third quarter net income of $70.2 million or $1.25 per share, compared to $65.5 million or $1.11 per share in the year-earlier period. Excluding certain items, comparable earnings for the third quarter were $68.6 million or $1.22 per share, up from $67.2 million or $1.14 per share in the same period last year.
On average, seven analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial expected the company to report earnings of $1.27 per share.
Quarterly revenues were $1.63 billion, down 1% from $1.65 billion in last year period. Four Wall Street analysts expected revenues of $1.63 billion.
Looking forward, for the fourth quarter, the company said it expects earnings per share in the range of $1.03 - $1.13. Eight Street analysts expect earnings of $1.23 per share.
For the fiscal year 2008, the company now expects earnings per share in the range of $4.43 - $4.53. Previously, the company expected earnings per share in the range of $4.55 to $4.75. Eight Street analysts expect earnings of $4.68 per share.
