Monday, India summoned Pakistan's High Commissioner Shahid Malik and expressed its concern over the alleged involvement of elements in Pakistan in the multiple terror attacks in Mumbai that killed 172 and injured many more.
The Indian external affairs ministry reportedly lodged a formal protest against Islamabad's inaction towards terrorist groups operating in India.
The development followed a statement by India's deputy home minister Shakeel Ahmad that the terrorists killed in Mumbai encounters were of Pakistani origin. The Pakistani government denies its involvement.
Meanwhile, Vilasrao Deshmukh, chief minister of the Indian western coastal state of Maharashtra, where Mumbai, the terrorist target is located, has offered to resign after his deputy R.R.Patil, in charge of the Home (Internal Security) portfolio, had stepped down owning moral responsibility for the incident. "I have offered to resign. If the responsibility of the attacks is on the chief minister, then I will go," he told reporters Monday. Reports hinted India's energy minister Sushilkumar Shinde will succeed Deshmukh.
