Monday, Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT), said that it has teamed up with Morgan Hill, California-based ITT Corporation to compete for the US Navy's upcoming surface electronic warfare improvement programme block 2 upgrade effort.
The surface electronic warfare improvement programme or SEWIP is expected to lay the groundwork for upcoming competition of the Navy's next-generation electronic warfare system. The Navy is expected to issue a request for proposal for SEWIP later this year and award a contract in 2009.
In at-sea demonstrations earlier this summer, Lockheed Martin and ITT team's Integrated common electronics warfare system or ICEWS, a single enterprise solution designed to scale across all ship classes in the U.S. Navy's surface fleet, performed successfully.
Carl Bannar, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin's Radar Systems business said, "The Lockheed Martin/ITT partnership brings more than 40 years of electronic warfare capabilities and experience together in a single team."
"We will provide a highly capable, modular solution that uses open systems architecture", he assured.
Also in the Navy's competition is General Dynamics that has teamed up with BAE Systems.
Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed Martin today also released the NGRAIN-developed visual damage and repair tracking software to be deployed with the F-35 Lightning II autonomic logistics information systems or ALIS software suite. ALIS provides a suite of software to support maintenance, supply and training operations for F-35 Lightning II (JSF) aircraft technicians worldwide. The software is expected to be delivered to test sites with F-35 aircraft in 2009.
LMT is currently trading at $72.70, down 5.72% or $4.41, on a volume of 797,308 shares on the NYSE.
