The European Parliament on Wednesday endorsed a package of laws aimed at slashing European Union's emissions of the gases that cause global warming.
The European Parliament's approval makes the clauses of the deal binding on EU member states.
The climate change plan, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020, was agreed by the 27 EU member states at the Brussels summit Friday.
Between 559 and 670 MEPs out of a total of 785 voted in favor of the six texts in the package, said European Parliament President Hans-Gert Poettering.
The agreement was the most ambitious pledge on climate change yet made by any world power.
