At least 3 Afghan civilians were killed and over 10 others injured after a suicide bomber exploded himself near a NATO patrol in the Maywand district of the Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan, said officials on Thursday.

Though the NATO forces in Afghanistan did not disclose the causalities suffered by its troops, Iraqi officials said that at least two NATO soldiers were wounded in the attack.

The incident happened when the NATO soldiers were on foot patrol in a crowded market area, the officials said, adding that the injured soldiers were airlifted to their military base for treatment.

The nationality of the NATO soldiers struck by Thursday's suicide attack has not yet been disclosed, but it is understood that Canada has deployed 2,500 of its soldiers in the region as part of the NATO-led international force in Afghanistan.
