British pound ticks up against most majors

The British currency strengthened against most of its major counterparts during Thursday's New York afternoon session from previous session's downtrend.

After touching last session's multi-week lows of 0.9322 against the euro and 131.98 versus the Japanese yen, the pound edged up in New York afternoon deals today. At present, the pound is trading near 135.93 against the yen and 0.9242 versus the euro, compared to yesterday's close of 135.00 and 0.9255, respectively.

Against the US dollar, the sterling also ticked up from earlier low of 1.3704 in afternoon session today. As of now, the pound-dollar pair is trading at 1.3899, which may be compared to Wednesday's closing value of 1.3876.

The pound, which closed yesterday's New York session at 1.6005 against the Swiss franc, is now worth a new multi-day high of 1.6511 in today's afternoon deals.
