Air Products & Chemicals Inc. (APD) reported fourth quarter net income of $243.9 million or $1.13 per share, compared to $261.6 million or $1.21 per share last year.
Income from continuing operations was $246.0 million or $1.14 per share, compared to $273.4 million or $1.26 per share in the same quarter last year.
On average, 17 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $1.12 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Sales declined to $2.13 billion from $2.71 billion in the year ago quarter. Eleven analysts estimated revenues of $2.09 billion.
Further, the company announced initial guidance for fiscal year 2010 EPS in the range of $4.65 to $4.90 per share, representing year-over-year earnings growth on a continuing operations basis of 15 to 21%.
Analysts expect the company to earn $4.76 per share.
For the first quarter of fiscal 2010 ending December 31, 2009, EPS is expected to be between $1.07 and $1.15 per share.
