Wall Street Moves Higher Despite Jobless Data

The stock market was modestly higher in early afternoon trading Friday despite word from the Labor Department that the nation’s unemployment rate had jumped in October to 10.2 percent. Gains by General Electric helped boost the market while insurance giant AIG sagged after reporting its core insurance business remained weak.
