Former "Family Feud" host Richard Dawson has died at the age of 79. Perhaps best known for his role as Peter Newkirk on the famed 1960's series "Hogan's Heroes," Dawson's son Gary says Richard was also a beloved family man.
"He was surrounded by his family. He was an amazing talent, a loving husband, a great dad and a doting grandfather," Gary Dawson wrote in a statement.
Dawson became renowned for his work on "Family Feud" and was awarded a Daytime Emmy for the show in 1978. His unique style also won him widespread critical acclaim, including praise from Tom Shales of The Washington Post, who called him "the fastest, brightest and most beguilingly caustic interlocutor since the late great Groucho bantered and parried on "You Bet Your Life."
Dawson is survived by his wife, three children and four grandchildren.
