Taiwan's leading indicator increased in April, but overall business indicators showed that the domestic economy still faced many challenges, the Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) said on Monday.

The leading indicator rose 0.4 percent month-on-month, same as in March. The index reading was 103.8. The annualized six-month rate of change increased by 0.08 points to 6.53 percent.

Among the seven component indexes, six including building permits and stock prices improved, while the measure of export orders worsened.

The coincident index declined by 0.2 percent from the previous month, down for the third consecutive month. Meanwhile, the lagging index climbed 0.6 percent.
