Former Kansas violinist Robby Steinhardt is recovering from heart surgery. The instrumentalist, who anchored the band's lineup between 1973 and 1982 and again from 1997 to 2006, suffered a heart attack on August 9, for which he subsequently underwent quadruple bypass surgery.

His girlfriend updated his fans on his Facebook page, saying that he had a successful operation:

"Robby made it through an amazing surgery. He's comfortable and in good hands . . . Thank you for all your support and love. Continue sending notes, I'll make sure he gets them."

Steinhardt had been preparing to join Kansas' 40th anniversary fan-appreciation concert in Pittsburgh on August 17. The show will feature all original band members along with a 35-piece orchestra. But now, Steinhardt will have to sit the concert out.
