Conrad Murray says he "cried tears of relief" when a jury ruled in favor of his former employer AEG Live, while dismissing the negligence lawsuit directed at the company for hiring Murray to care for Michael Jackson.
While Murray is currently serving an involuntary manslaughter sentence for giving Jackson an overdose of the drug propofol, the jury ruled that AEG hired Murray at Jackson's behest, and was competent to do the job for which he was hired.
Murray told NBC's Today that upon hearing the verdict he "cried because for once the world was allowed to hear some of the facts . . . much of which I was denied and my attorneys could not present during my criminal trial."
The jury's foreman, Gregg Barden, said that the verdict should not be seen as a vindication of AEG Live or Murray: The ruling "doesn't mean we felt [Murray] was ethical."
Murray is due to be released from prison later this month.
