Justin Bieber has announced his official retirement on Twitter.
The 19-year-old pop superstar posted on Tuesday night: "My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring." He followed up by telling his fans that the media is partly to blame for his decision: "The media talks a lot about me. They make up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle." Last week, Bieber told Los Angeles' Power 106 radio station that he was planning on retiring, but did not give specifics:
"I want to grow as an artist, and I'm taking a step out, I want my music to mature."
However, his manager Scooter Braun noted afterward that Bieber was planning on taking just a year off: "He can still live in the studio and work on the next album . . . but I just want him to take some time to himself, so he can have that time alone cause he's been working since he was 12 years old."
