NME will award Blur fronter Damon Albarn with its Award for Innovation at the NME Awards in Austin, Texas on February 26. Albarn is getting the first ever honor awarded by the magazine.
According to the mag, Albarn is truly a unique sort of genius:
"Damon's enduring popularity is a testament to his unrivalled talent. He is somebody who is always pushing things forward, always operating in his own sphere and forever innovating via experimentation and collaboration . . . We're lucky to have him, and it's an absolute honour for us to be giving Damon the NME Award For Innovation," writes NME editor Mike Williams.
NME's latest issue - featuring a complete career retrospective of Albarn - hits newsstands Wednesday, February 12. The issue features tributes from Richard Russell, Massive Attack, Jude Law and De La Soul amongst others.
