Business sentiment among large Japanese manufacturers weakened in June, the results of the Bank of Japan's quarterly Tankan survey showed Tuesday.
The business confidence index for large manufacturers fell to 12 in three months ended June from 17 in the three months ended March. The index was forecast to come in at 15.
The index measuring confidence among large non-manufacturing firms decreased to 19 in the second quarter from 24 in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, the index measuring small manufacturers' business confidence improved to 3 in the second quarter. This marked a deterioration from 4 recorded for the March quarter.
Regarding investment outlook, big manufacturers expect to raise fixed investment by 7.4 percent in the fiscal year 2014 following a 2.5 percent increase in 2013.
