Josh Thompson performed "Same Ol' Plain Ol' Me" at the Grand Ole Opry earlier this week. The cut, featured on Thompson's latest record, Change: The Lost Record, was recorded by the Opry for its Live at the Opry web series.
"You can take me out the pickup truck and put me in a Cadillac / Shave my face and cut my hair and put some new clothes on my back," Thompson sings.
"Sit me down in a fancy restaurant, but I'll still order up ketchup and sweet tea / I'll be the same ol' plain ol' me."
Change: The Lost Record, Vol 1 was released on October 1. The second part of the two volume EP release currently has no release date.
The songs were originally recorded in 2011 but delayed after Thompson left RCA and went to Show-Dog Universal.
"The release of this has been three or four years in the making," Josh says. "I left [RCA] with the record, and I always had the intention of releasing this record as two EPs at some point in my life."
