Claude "Butch" Trucks, the drummer for and one of the founding members of the Allman Brothers Band, passed away on the evening of January 24 at the age of 69. He died in West Palm Beach, Florida. His cause of death is currently unknown.
Trucks is survived by his wife Melinda and their four children and four grandchildren. A representative for Trucks stated, "The Trucks and Allman Brothers Band families request all of Butch's friends and fans to please respect our privacy at this time of sadness for our loss. Butch will play on in our hearts forever."
Gregg Allman also released a statement that read:
"I'm heartbroken. I've lost another brother and it hurts beyond words. Butch and I knew each other since we were teenagers and we were bandmates for over 45 years. He was a great man and a great drummer and I'm going to miss him forever. Rest In Peace Brother Butch."
Trucks becomes the third member of the band's original lineup to pass away. Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1971 and Berry Oakley also died in a motorcycle accident in 1972.
