Cryptocurrencies were a mixed bag Tuesday morning after a strong showing a day earlier apparently on fears that the controversial stablecoin Tether was likely to fail in maintaining its 1:1 peg to the dollar. Bitcoin was trading lower, while Ethereum was rising.
Tether, which trades with the symbol USDT, recovered early Tuesday and was trading at $0.98 as of 10.46 am ET on CoinMarketCap. Overall cryptocurrency market capitalization was $211.28 billion and the Bitcoin dominance rate was 54.1 percent as of 10.47 am ET on the same website. Major US investment firm Fidelity Investments floated a new firm to provide its huge clientele of institutional investors such as hedge funds, access to trading in digital assets or cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. The new unit, Fidelity Digital Asset Services, will offer enterprise-grade digital asset solutions such as custody and trade execution services for institutional investors.

British banking giant Barclays has put on hold its plan to launch a cryptocurrency trading desk, Financial News reported. The bank was exploring the idea after reportedly reaching out to gauge the interest in a cryptocurrency trading desk among its clients, such as hedge funds and institutional investors.
Apple's Steve Wozniak Named Co-founder of Blockchain VC Firm
Tech giant Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniak was named the co-founder of a blockchain-based technology focused venture capital firm EQUI Global. Wozniak will head technology investments and locate tech talent, the firm said in a press release.
NBA Player To Accept Bitcoin As Payment For His Signature Shoes
Budding NBA player Spencer Dinwiddie, a strong supporter of Bitcoin and an investor, said his signature shoe brand K8IROS would accept Bitcoin as payment. In an interview with the Bleacher Report, the player, who is currently with the Brooklyn Nets, said his shoe line will be released this season. Dinwiddie has been wearing the sneaker all pre-season, while it will hit retail in Nets shops and on his personal site later this season. He developed the shoeline in collaboration with a company called Project Dream.
