Neil Young has sold 50 percent of the global copyright and income interests in his entire song catalog to Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited.

In a career spread over nearly six decades, Young's catalog comprises 1,180 songs.

One of the most influential songwriters of all time, Young has received 27 Grammy Award nominations and has been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.

Announcing the deal, Merck Mercuriadis, founder of The Family (Music) Limited and Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited, said, "I bought my first Neil Young album aged 7. 'Harvest' was my companion and I know every note, every word, every pause and silence intimately. Neil Young, or at least his music, has been my friend and constant ever since."

"This is a deal that changes Hipgnosis forever and it's a dream to welcome Neil, Frank, Bonnie and the team to the Hipgnosis family," said the music industry veteran.

Mercuriadis said Hipgnosis is partnering with Young to ensure his incredible songs reach all corners of the earth.

Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited is the first U.K. listed investment company offering investors exposure to songs and associated intellectual property rights.

It recently acquired 100 percent of Lindsey Buckingham's publishing rights as well as Jimmy Iovine's producing royalties.
