The Academy of Country Music has announced that Morgan Wallen has been disqualified from competing for awards or performing at the upcoming ACM Awards ceremony.
"The Academy of Country Music will halt Morgan Wallen's potential involvement and eligibility for this year's 56th Academy of Country Music Awards cycle," the Academy said in a statement on Wednesday, as a video of Morgan hurling a racial slur went viral.
Without specifically referring to the incident, which has led to severe backlash against the country star, the Academy said it "does not condone or support intolerance or behavior that doesn't align with our commitment and dedication to diversity and inclusion."
"We have made his management team aware of this decision," the statement added.
In the wake of the controversy, the Academy will be reviewing its awards eligibility and submission process, "ensuring our nominees consistently reflect the Academy's integrity."
Wallen's name will not be there when the second round of balloting opens up on February 10. The ACM Awards are currently scheduled to be held on April 18.
