A 70-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run that killed rapper Nicki Minaj's father, Robert Maraj, who was 64.
The suspect, Charles Polevich, faces charges of fleeing the scene of an incident and tampering with physical evidence.
"He was absolutely aware of what happened," said Nassau County Police Detective, Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick. "He got out of the car and he looked at the deceased, got into his car, and made the conscious decision to leave instead of dialing 911, instead of calling an ambulance for the man."
An arraignment in Nassau Country court has suspended Polevich's driver's license in addition to ordering him to surrender his passport.
"I'm very, very, very happy about the arrest," said Minaj's mother, Carol Maraj.
