The Academy of Motion Pictures has announced that The Roots frontman and drummer Questlove will serve as the musical director for this year's Oscars.
Drummer, DJ, producer, author and founding member of The Roots, Questlove is already the musical director for "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," for which the hip hop group serves as the house band.
A five-time Grammy Award winner, Questlove has held musical directing positions with such artists as D'Angelo, Eminem and Jay-Z. He executive-produced the documentary series "Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America" through his production company Two One Five Entertainment and will next direct a documentary about Sly Stone.
Questlove is an Academy member and has performed on the Oscars previously.
Rob Paine (supervising producer), Jeannae Rouzan-Clay (Co-producer), Dionne Harmon (Co-producer) and Raj Kapoor (Co-producer) will join Questlove on the Oscars production team, among others.
The 93rd Oscars air live on ABC on Sunday, April 25.
