Kelly Clarkson covered Sinéad O'Connor's 1990 hit "Nothing Compares 2 U" on Wednesday, April 14, for the "Kellyoke" segment on her talk show "The Kelly Clarkson Show."
Accompanied only by a piano, the singer performed a powerful and emotional cover of the song.
"It's been seven hours and 15 days/ Since you took your love away/ Since you've been gone I can do whatever I want/ I can see whomever I choose," she starts the song.
"Nothing Compares 2 U" was written and composed by the late legend Prince for his side project, The Family. The song featured on their eponymous 1985 debut album.
O'Connor recorded a version of the song in 1989 for her second studio album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got. It was released as the album's second single in early 1990 and became a worldwide hit.
The song spent four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track also reached No. 1 on the Alternative Songs chart and No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
