Kodak Black has accepted a plea deal in a sexual assault case. The rapper, who was accused of assaulting a teenage girl, was sentenced to probation on Wednesday, April 28.
The rapper was originally charged with rape but accepted a deal and pleaded guilty to first-degree assault. Black, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was sentenced to 10 years suspended sentence. But he will won't be required to go prison, as long as he completes 18 months probation.
The plea deal also required the rapper take full accountability for the incident and publicly apologize. Black must also undergo counseling.
"Today Bill Kapri took a plea to the legal charge of assault, a non sex offense, and received 18 months probation," his legal team said in a statement, according to Rolling Stone. "This was a change of charge from the original charge. Having consistently denied these 5 year old allegations, he entered this plea in order to resolve the matter."
The incident happened in 2016, when Black was accused of assaulting a high school student in a hotel room following a concert in Florence, South Carolina.
Earlier this year, outgoing President Donald Trump commuted Black's three-year federal prison sentence. He had already spent 46 months in prison "for making a false statement on a Federal document."
