The rising number of cases of Covid-19 in Australia have prompted Rod Stewart to call off his tour of the country in March-April.

The veteran British singer was scheduled to play nine shows during the tour, which included a mix of arenas and outdoor wineries, for Roundhouse Entertainment's A Day on the Green series.

"My dear friends, once again I feel we've all been cheated by this evil disease, so it is with great regret that I announce my shows for 2022 have had to be canceled," Stewart said in the statement.

He added, "My thoughts are with all your families at this difficult time as we come out of the joyous and hopefully safe holiday season and I look forward to returning to Australia as soon as the health situation permits."

The tour's producer Live Nation expressed regret over the cancellation of Stewart's trek.

There is currently no word of cancellation regarding the U.K. and U.S. legs of tour in support of Stewart's new album, The Tears of Hercules.
