Elvis Costello has reunited with Allan Mayes, his partner in his first band Rusty, and announced their first album together.

Marking the 50th anniversary of their short-lived band, a nostalgic album titled The Resurrection of Rust will be released on June 10.

The Resurrection of Rust includes two original songs from their Rusty days ("Warm House" and "Maureen and Sam"), two Nick Lowe covers ("Surrender To The Rhythm" and "Don't Lose Your Grip On Love"), Kentucky songwriter Jim Ford's "I'm Ahead If I Can Quit While I'm Behind," and a unique fusion of the Neil Young songs "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" and "Dance, Dance, Dance."

The Resurrection of Rust is produced by Costello and Sebastian Krys and features Costello and Mayes backed by Costello's band the Imposters.

The album will be for sale on CD at Costello's in-person events and concerts.

It will be widely available on CD and digitally on June 10, to be followed by a vinyl release later this summer.

The record comes from EMI, with Capitol Records as the release partner in the U.S.

Costello says that the idea of the album was ignited in a letter he received from former bandmate Mayes last year.

"He wanted to remind me that it would soon be fifty years since I joined his band, 'Rusty', just after our first meeting at a party on New Year's Eve, 1971," Costello said. "When he asked me if I wanted to celebrate this anniversary by getting together to play a few songs that we used to know, I said, 'Absolutely not! Let's make the record we would have cut when we were 18, if anyone had let us.'"

"And this is what you will hear on 'The Resurrection Of Rust,'" he added.
