The driver who caused the death of Nicki Minaj's father in a hit-and-run incident has been sentenced to one year in jail.
Minaj's father Robert Maraj, 64, died in an accident that occurred on Long Island in February 2021 after a Volvo station wagon driven by Charles Polevich hit him.
In May, the 71-year-old driver from Long Island pleaded guilty to leaving the scene and tampering with evidence.
In addition to the jail term, Polevich was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and had his driver's license suspended for six months.
Polevich said in court that he has "been heartsick since realizing the extent of the tragedy" and that there was "no excuse" for his behavior.
Maraj's widow Carol said Nassau County Judge Howard Sturim was "too lenient" in confining the punishment to just one year of imprisonment.
