Zac Brown Band have announced an ALS benefit show at the iconic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Thursday, September 22.
"Playing in Nashville, our home away from home, is always something special. This particular one is meaningful because we're raising awareness and funds for one of our very own through @hoponacure," the band wrote on Instagram.
Recently, Guitarist John Driskell Hopkins announced that he has been diagnosed with the disease.
"We see all the love and support @johndriskellhopkins has received thus far so we're gonna bring the house down and show folks a good time in appreciation," the band added.
According to Mayo Clinic, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. ALS often begins with muscle twitching and weakness in a limb, or slurred speech. Eventually, ALS affects control of the muscles needed to move, speak, eat and breathe. There is no cure for this fatal disease.
After noticing slurred speech and an inability to play notes quickly, Hopkins consulted doctors and was diagnosed with ALS.
"I'm ready to fight this disease," he said after announcing his diagnosis. "I want to show my girls what a warrior their dad is."
