Anthrax' Frank Bello Explains European Tour Cancellation

Anthrax bassist Frank Bello says the band canceled its 20 European tour dates due to spiraling costs.

Anthrax had originally been scheduled to play 20 shows during October-November as part of its 40th anniversary U.K./European tour.

Instead, they confined their celebrations to playing eight U.K. shows from September 27 to October 8.

"When I saw the numbers, they were literally triple what they originally started at," Bello told TotalRock's Neil Jones. "We would be coming home at such a loss. You don't mind a little bit of a loss just to play to the fans, but such a loss — we would have been really bad off for a while. So it didn't make sense."

"After COVID, when everything went crazy, money-wise, financially it wasn't feasible to do it anymore," he added.

Bello said that at a time life becomes more expensive with rising food and heating costs in Europe, "it's just a really hard time for everybody."

"Sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour," Bello said.
