The German city of Frankfurt has announced that it is canceling an upcoming concert by rock legend Roger Waters, accusing him of antisemitism.

In a statement announcing the show's cancellation, Frankfurt's municipal government called the former Pink Floyd frontman one of the world's "most widely-known antisemites."

Waters was scheduled to perform at the Festhalle concert hall in Frankfurt on May 28 as part of the "This Is Not A Drill" tour,

He is also under pressure to cancel his other shows in Germany in May. Waters is also scheduled to play concerts in Berlin, Munich and Cologne.

Waters has repeatedly called for a cultural boycott of Israel and drew comparisons to its government with the apartheid regime in South Africa and put pressure on artists to cancel events in Israel.

A balloon in the shape of a pig with images of the Star of David and several company logos was part of Waters' stage shows at more than 200 concerts as part of "The Wall Live Tour" from 2010 to 2013.

The location of the planned concert in particular caused a stir in Frankfurt. In the days after the pogrom night in 1938, 3,000 Jewish men from Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main area were brought to the festival hall, abused and later deported to concentration camps. Many of them were murdered.
