Florence + The Machine recently released "Mermaids," a new song from the "Complete Edition" of their 2022 album Dance Fever.

Earlier this month, the band took to social media to share a reel featuring some clips from mermaid-themed horror films and captioned their post, "A new song is coming to the Dance Fever universe," referencing their celebrated 2022 LP.

A few days later, the band posted a video of Florence Welch strutting in front of a perfectly English gray and green backdrop, lip syncing to the single's lyrics.

The song has now arrived with a new lyric video. It's accompanied on the "Complete Edition" by spoken word poem versions of the album tracks "King," "My Love," and "Cassandra."

Welch and Dave Bayley, who wrote and produced "Mermaids," started penning the song during their sessions for Dance Fever and completed it when the former was recovering from a foot injury.

The lyrics of the song go like this: "I remember falling through these streets / Somewhat out of place, if not for the drunkenness /It makes my chest hurt to think of it," and "shining under lights from shitty clubs and doing shitty drugs / And hugging girls that smelt like Britney Spears and coconuts."
