Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

Judge David Herriford handed down the sentence to the rapper during a hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court that had been pushed back by delays.

Lanez, whose original name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted in December on three felony counts over shooting Megan in her foot during a drunken dispute after a pool party at Kylie Jenner's house in the Hollywood Hills on July 12, 2020.

Bullet fragments were removed from Megan's feet by surgery.

Last month, the Judge had refused to grant Lanez's request for a new trial in the case.

Meanwhile, Megan did not attend the sentencing hearing, saying she could not bear to be in the same room as Lanez but wrote a statement that was read in court on Monday, the New York Times reported.

"He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma," the statement said. "This is a statement for all survivors that their lives matter and there is zero tolerance for the torture that accompanies violence."
