Pet Shop Boys took to social media last week to accuse Drake of interpolating their song "West End Girls," by using a sample of the track in "All the Parties," a song from his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs.
In "All the Parties," the hip-hop superstar raps, "It's 6, our town a dead-end world. East End boys and West End girls, yeah."
The lyrics and melody mirror the Pet Shop Boys duo Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe's "West End Girls," in which they sing, "In a West End town, a dead end world/ The East End boys and West End girls."
"Surprising to hear Drake singing the chorus of 'West End Girls' in the track 'All the Parties' on his new album," Pet Shop Boys wrote on their Instagram account. "No credit given or permission requested."
"West End Girls," which was Pet Shop Boys' first single, arrived in April 1984 and became No. 1 in the U.S. and the U.K. in 1986 after the duo included the track on their debut album, Please.
