Country superstars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sang John Lennon's "Imagine" during their late friend and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter's memorial service on Tuesday, November 28.
Carter passed away on November 19 at her home in Plains, Georgia. She was 96 years old. In May 2023, the Carter Center announced that Carter had been diagnosed with dementia.
The memorial service took place at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the campus of Atlanta's Emory University.
The performance began with just Yearwood and Brooks together, the former singing lead and the latter accompanying on an acoustic guitar and providing a bit of backing vocals. By the end of the performance, some of the other musicians had delicately joined in, offering choral vocals and soft piano.
Yearwood and Brooks enjoyed a close relationship with Carter and her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, through their shared involvement with Habitat for Humanity.
