Philippines Manufacturing Sector Moves To Expansion - S&P Global

The manufacturing sector in the Philippines climbed back up into expansion territory in April, the latest survey from S&P Global revealed on Friday with a manufacturing PMI score of 53.0.

That's up from 49.4 in March, and it moves above the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.

The fresh upturn in the health of the sector was supported by renewed expansions in the two largest components of the headline index, new orders and output. Rates of growth were sharp and the most pronounced in the year-to-date for both indicators.

Major central banks continued to dominate the economic news flow this week too, led by the Federal Reserve, as they announced their latest policy decisions. The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions. In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
