Rapper Tory Lanez has sued the California prison system over his stabbing in prison last year.
Lanez filed the lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as well as the warden and 50 correctional officers at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.
Lanez is currently serving a prison sentence for shooting fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion. He was reportedly stabbed in prison in May last year and has now filed a lawsuit seeking $100 million in damages over the incident.
In court documents, Lanez details suffering 16 stab wounds in an attack by a fellow inmate armed with a shank, along with permanent facial scarring and two collapsed lungs. He identifies his alleged attacker as Santino Casio and claims prison officials wrongfully housed them together despite Casio's reported history of violence.
Lanez also argues that his celebrity status makes him a target, specifically accusing warden Danny Samuel of violating CDCR protocols in assigning housing.
Further, he alleges that staff were not present during the attack and failed to respond promptly, accusing the facility of "deliberate indifference to foreseeable violence" and criticizing guards for not providing adequate protection.
