Late music icon Michael Jackson has surpassed his personal-best domestic streaming week, boosted by the release of the new biopic, Michael.
The King of Pop's solo catalog generated a combined 137.5 million official on-demand streams in the United States during the week of April 24 - 30, according to Luminate. The total marked a 146% increase and more than doubled his previous career high.
Before setting the new personal nine-digit streaming record, Jackson's solo catalog had already reached a personal best the previous week with 55.9 million song streams. Prior to the Michael era, Jackson's career high stood at 53.7 million during the week of Oct. 25 - 31, 2019, driven by the annual Halloween resurgence of Thriller.
Michael was directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan. It follows the early life of Jackson, covering the period from his involvement in the Jackson 5 in the 1960s to the Bad tour in the late 1980s. Jackson is portrayed by his nephew Jaafar Jackson and as a child by Juliano Krue Valdi, both in their film debuts.
The music icon also jumped to No. 3 from No. 29 on the Billboard Artist 100, a multimetric chart indicating artist popularity from streaming, digital song sales, radio airplay and album sales.
Meanwhile, his landmark album Thriller re-enters the Billboard 200 at No. 7, with 45,000 equivalent album units, a 425% weekly improvement. It is the album's best showing since reaching the same position in December 2022 after a 40th anniversary reissue.
