Tim McGraw returned with his first new music in over a year last week, releasing two songs, "Pawn Shop Guitar" and "Song for America," via McGraw Music/Turbo Tonk Records.
McGraw and Tom Douglas co-wrote "Pawn Shop Guitar," which offers a look into the three-time Grammy Award-winning artist's early days and the sacrifices he had to make along the way.
The song sees McGraw sharing the memory of buying a guitar from a pawn shop by selling his class ring.
"Song for America," written by JT Harding and Tom Douglas, is about what it means to be American, given the diversity of opinions and the vast geographical landscape.
"Tears rain in Arlington for soldiers young and brave/white crosses on a field of green/above Old Glory waves," McGraw sings, paying tribute to American troops and veterans.
"This is the first new music I've put out in over a year. It's no secret that over the last few years, I got sidelined with back and knee issues," McGraw shared. "That time was challenging on so many levels, but one of the positive things that came out of it, aside from physically being back to 100%, was that it gave me time to reflect on my life and to write songs. I was able to really dig into some personal stories in those songs for the first time."
