Immunic, Inc. (IMUX) a late-stage biotech company, released financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2026, reporting a wider loss than a year ago, driven by higher operating expenses.
Company Profile
Immunic is focused on developing oral therapies for neurologic diseases. The company's lead program, Vidofludimus calcium (IMU-838), is being evaluated for the treatment of relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS).
The company's development pipeline also includes IMU-381 and IMU-856, which are being developed for neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases.
Upcoming Pipeline Milestones
The company expects to report results from the twin Phase 3 ENSURE-1 and ENSURE-2 trials of vidofludimus calcium in relapsing MS by the end of 2026. If successful, Immunic plans to submit a New Drug Application (NDA) in mid-2027.
Immunic plans to initiate a Phase 3 trial of vidofludimus calcium for progressive multiple sclerosis later this year, building on the Phase 2 CALLIPER data.
IMU-381 remains in preclinical development, with lead candidate identification ongoing for neurological and autoimmune diseases.
Q2 2026 Financial Results
For the second quarter ended June 30, 2026, loss expanded to $34.10 million, or $0.80 per share from $26.82 million, or $2.03 per share in the previous year.
Total operating expenses jumped by 30% to $35.33 million for the quarter, from $27.08 million a year earlier, primarily due to higher Research and Development (R&D), and General and administrative (G&A) expenditures.
R&D expenses climbed $25.93 million for the second quarter of 2026, compared to $21.37 million for the same period in 2025.
The $4.6 million increase was mainly driven by higher personnel expenses, drug-drug interaction studies, and other costs, partially offset by lower CALLIPER and ENSURE clinical trial expenses.
G&A costs were $9.40 million substantially higher than $5.71 million in the prior year.
Cash Position
As of June 30, 2026, cash and cash equivalents totaled $155.10 million.
Clinical & Business Highlights
Immunic continued execution of the twin Phase 3 ENSURE trials in relapsing multiple sclerosis and preparations for a confirmatory Phase 3 program in progressive MS based on CALLIPER data.
During the second quarter, the company expanded its management and Board of Directors with the appointments of a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chair of the Board and a Board member.
