Powerus, a West Palm Beach, Florida-based startup, has developed the Guardian, a low-cost drone interceptor designed to counter the growing threat from unmanned aerial systems.

The interceptor costs about $5,000 and is being manufactured at a facility in the United Arab Emirates using 3D-printed components and modular parts.

The company currently produces about 3,000 interceptors a month and aims to increase output to 15,000 a month by 2027. The Guardian has a reported top burst speed of 340 kph, a cruising speed of 160 kph, a range of 15 kilometres and an operational endurance of 28 minutes.

Powerus recently secured a $22.3 million contract to protect Middle Eastern oil and gas infrastructure. The company says the system is designed to provide an affordable counter-drone option as demand for interceptor systems increases.
