Vaxcyte, Inc. (PCVX), a clinical-stage vaccine innovation company, announced the appointments of Luis Jodar as Chief Medical Officer and David McAvoy as Chief Legal Officer. In addition, the company said that topline safety, tolerability and immunogenicity data from the Phase 3 OPUS-1 trial of VAX-31 are now expected by the end of October, ahead of previous guidance for a fourth-quarter 2026 readout.

The pivotal Phase 3 OPUS-1 trial is a randomized, double-blind, active-controlled clinical trial evaluating VAX-31 for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) and pneumonia in adults. The study is being conducted at approximately 50 sites in the United States.

Luis Jodar has more than 30 years of experience in vaccine development and launch across industry and health organisations. He spent 17 years at Pfizer Inc. and most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Vaccines and Infectious Diseases.

David McAvoy brings more than three decades of legal leadership experience in the biopharmaceutical industry to Vaxcyte. He joins the company from Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer.

"Luis and David join Vaxcyte at a pivotal time for the company," said Grant Pickering, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Vaxcyte.
