Heart lead singer Ann Wilson was born in San Diego, California, on June 19, 1950. Ann and her sister/Heart bandmate Nancy Wilson moved frequently with their family growing up, as their father served in the Marine Corps. The pair became active in music after settling in Bellevue, Washington. After several incarnations of the band, the Wilson sisters officially formed Heart while living in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1974. They released their debut effort, “Dreamboat Annie,” later that year. The album generated two of the band’s signature hits, “Magic Man” and “Crazy On You.” In Gillian G. Gaar’s book “She’s A Rebel,” Nancy recalled that, while it was hard for the sisters being women in the rock business, it also helped them break through. “ . . . Being a woman in rock, especially when we came along, sold albums. Because nobody was doing it and it was really ‘interesting.’ So even if it seemed like a novelty at the time, it definitely got us noticed when we got out there,” she explained.
