The White Stripes released their third studio album, “White Blood Cells,” on July 3, 2001. The album followed their 2000 release “De Stijl” and includes their garage rock classic “Fell In Love With A Girl,” along with fan favorite “Hotel Yorba” and “We’re Going to be Friends.”The album established the White Stripes as a force in the early 2000s garage rock movement and peaked at number 61 on the Billboard 200 chart. It won massive critical acclaim on its release and went on to place on various “best of the decade” lists including those released by Rolling Stone, NME, Pitchfork, and Spin. A commercial for the Air Force aired during the 2010 Super Bowl with a track closely resembling “Fell in Love With A Girl.” This prompted outrage from the band, who released the message:“We believe our song was re-recorded and used without permission of the White Stripes, our publishers, label or management. The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve's presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support."
