Jimmy Reeves recorded the classic country track “He’ll Have to Go” on October 15, 1959. He released the track as part of the album “He'll Have to Go and Other Hits” and it featured the B-side "In a Mansion Stands My Love.”

The track topped the Billboard Hot Country and Western songs chart on February 8, 1960 bumping "El Paso" by Marty Robbins from the top spot. It stayed at number one all the way through the following May when "Please Help Me, I'm Falling" by Hank Locklin hit number one.

The song has since been covered by a slew of country and rock artists including Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Jones, Bryan Ferry and Ry Cooder. Elton John gave perhaps the most high profile rendition of the tune, playing it during his historic Soviet Union concerts in 1979.
