Former Nirvana guitarist Krist Novoselic was born in the Compton area of Los Angeles, California on May 16, 1965. He was born to Croatian immigrants and lived briefly in the heavily Croatian area of San Pedro, California before relocating with his family to Aberdeen, Washington. At the age of 15, Krist’s parents sent him to live with relatives in the city of Zadar, Croatia, then part of Yugoslavia. He attended the Gymnasium school where he began developing an interest in punk bands like the Sex Pistols and Ramones. Novoselic eventually connected with Kurt Cobain through his older brother Robert as both shared an interest in punk. Kurt had previously played in a band called Fecal Matter and a demo tape of that band enticed Krist to join Nirvana.
