Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham was born in Palo Alto, California on October 3, 1949. He was born to Rutheda and Morris Buckingham and was one of three sons born to the couple. All three boys were standout swimmers as children and Lindsey’s brother Greg went on to win a silver medal at the 1968 Olympics.His first experience with music came at home playing a cheap toy guitar along to his older brother’s extensive record collection. His parents recognized his natural ability for the instrument and bought him his first real guitar, a $35 Harmony.His first professional experience came while attending Menlo-Atherton High School in a band called the Fritz Rabyne Memorial Band. He co-founded the band with Stevie Nicks and they gained a regional following, opening for bigger acts like Santana, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
