1991 - Public Enemy Release 'Apocalypse 91 . . . The Enemy Strikes Black'

Public Enemy released their fourth studio album “Apocalypse 91... The Enemy Strikes Black” on October 3, 2006. The release followed their 1990 effort “Fear of a Black Planet” and featured the singles "Can't Truss It," "Night Train" and "Shut Em Down”

By November 23, 1991, the release hit the top of the Billboard Hip-Hop chart, bumping “Forever My Lady” by Jodeci from the top spot. Public Enemy held on at number one for one week on the chart before Jodeci claimed the top spot back again.

The release earned rave reviews, with Rolling Stone gushing that it "… attempts nothing short of setting a sociopolitical agenda for the black community... Apocalypse '91 needs to be watched."
