Jerry Lee Lewis recorded his landmark rendition of "Great Balls Of Fire" on October 8, 1957, at the historic Sun Studio in Memphis. The tune was meant as a follow-up to Lewis' hit "Whole Lot Of Shakin' Going On." Otis Blackwell, whose "All Shook Up" and "Don't Be Cruel" had become hits for Elvis, saw a performance Jerry Lee had given on the Steve Allen Show and sent a demo of "Great Balls Of Fire" to Sun Records owner Sam Phillips.
